Field Guide for Community Building Includes Conway County and Gravette Stories - December 2003
"Your Field Guide for Community Building," a new publication
published by the Heartland Center for Leadership Development in
Lincoln, NE, includes stories from two VISION 2010 communities –
Conway County and Gravette. Funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation,
the first phase of the project was launched when 40 community
development practitioners representing 16 states (including Dr. Mark
Peterson, representing Arkansas) met with Heartland Center
associates for a weekend of reflection and storytelling. Together,
the group discussions and personal stories provide a wealth of
practical information and personal insight into our work as
community builders.
Now that the project is complete, rural practitioners and
community leaders have a resource that includes an easy-to-use
textbook, plus a companion CD that provides "virtual mentors" for
each of the chapters’ main concepts. A story about Conway County is
featured in the Community Building Publication, and reflections and
stories about Gravette and Conway County are included in the CD.
