Sebascott is Still on a Roll – November 2003
One of the real joys of community development is to see
communities that come together, think strategically, and make real
progress. Marion Mathis gives this impressive report from the
Sebascott (Sebastian and Scott Counties) Economic Development
Council:
- We just completed a new 5000-square-foot senior citizens
center. The city was allowed to do its own contracting, which
reduced the cost (low bid of $514,000) to about $400,000.
- Construction of a new $9 million high school is under way,
and Farmers Bank is going to build in downtown Mansfield. Allied
Bank of Mansfield is in the process of renovating and expanding
its size. We are extending our sewer line out a mile east of
town to pick up the new high school, and that will open up some
ideal land for development.
- Phase II of our downtown enhancement project is ready to go
and we will hopefully complete it by next summer. We have the
engineers designing a new sewer treatment plant for us, with an
estimated cost of $1.5 million.
"Thanks for all your help!" Mathis concludes.
