VisionWorks' Breakthrough Solutions
Community and Regional Success Stories
Siloam Springs Reaches Out to the Whole Community – August 2001

Congratulations to the Siloam Springs VISION 2010 Steering Committee for involving its entire community in envisioning their future. “We have had over a dozen visioning meetings and interacted with about a thousand people,” states Bruce Jenkins of Siloam Springs (rojo@tcainternet.com).

Siloam Springs has also done an excellent job of reaching the Hispanic community. At one meeting, fifty people showed up, and the entire meeting was held in Spanish. “Once I told them that the leadership of our community wanted to know what they would like to see in the community, their eyes just lit up,” states Jenkins.

Bruce described the following key points for involving your community in a visioning process:

  • To reach a lot of people in the community, it is easiest to meet with existing organizations.

  • We put all of our results on our website, and use e-mail and phone to communicate.

  • Scrap conventional advertisements for reaching the Hispanic community, and start with all companies and organizations that have bi-lingual employees.

Paul Joseph, Siloam Springs Chamber of Commerce, is the main contact person for the Siloam Springs VISION 2010 Steering Committee (dpjoseph@cox-internet.com).
