Siloam Springs Initiates On-Line Survey, Hispanic Business After Hours – March 2004

"We are learning that partnering is one of the keys to success for communities," states Paul Joseph, Executive Director of the Siloam Springs Chamber of Commerce. "We visited Morrilton and Jonesboro in the last few months, and we will soon be visiting Fayetteville. We talk with city leaders and chamber of commerce members and ask them what is working well." This is one of the most valuable things a community can do, enabling it to learn from the experiences of other communities.

Joseph also indicated that the group just completed an Existing Business and Industry Survey, with 21 out of 24 businesses completing the on-line survey. Questions addressed room for expansion, asking how the city and chamber can be of assistance, and why each business chose Siloam Springs. He indicated that they will soon be inviting the CEOs and plant managers to come together to hear the results of the survey. In other activities, the Chamber of Commerce, Students in Free Enterprise at John Brown University, and Arvest Bank put together an Hispanic "Business After Hours" networking forum, as there are several Hispanic businesses in Siloam Springs.

"We are just learning how to be effective," states Joseph. "We would like to bring John Brown University, the city, and the chamber of commerce together, as we are all involved in economic development."
