Van Buren is Moving and Shaking – April 1998
When it comes to community involvement, the Van Buren VISION 2010
Leadership Team and Steering Committee are real pros. The team sent
representatives to every civic group in the community, gathering
over 400 ideas to improve the community. In early February, they
hosted a media reception for television, radio, and newspaper
representatives, giving them a briefing on VISION 2010. Since that
reception, their news coverage has improved dramatically.
In late February, they held a Vision Fair for three hours for the
public. The Steering Committee created 11 exhibit booths of
different issues and possible projects. Over 200 people attended and
voted on their top priority issues. This led to the formation of
eight study action teams.
